Canoeist charged

John Darwin, the canoeist who disappeared for five years, assumed dead, has been charged with fraud.

Cleveland police said John Darwin was currently fit and well, but declined to say if there would be any further charges.

They also urged his wife, Anne, to contact the police as soon as possible, although they still don't know when she intends to return to the UK.
