On tonight's show...
A rough outline of what's to come on Channel 4 News at 6.45 this evening:
How to stop kids drinking in public? Go after their parents. That's the latest coming out of the Home Office. Ultimately that could mean prosecution.
We all know Britain has a drink problem but just to prove it a party on the London Underground (held to mark the end of public drinking there) got out of hand.
Six stations were closed and 17 people arrested. It's the young that are the greatest worry. Today the Lib Dems said they'd found out that 2,500 under-14s are admitted to hospital because of alcohol every year. Jane Dodge is on the case.
Not enough rice
Got some rice in the cupboard? You might want to eke it out a bit; there's a shortage on.
Actually it's not as bad as all that, but some supermarkets are limiting the number of bags customers can buy: in effect rationing.
A glitch in the rice supply chain or a more serious reflection of global food shortages? Bridgid Nzekwu is investigating.
Hollywood on fire
As I write there's a huge fire in LA. Not the usual forest blaze in the hills but an inferno on the Universal Studios lot. The US Networks have rushed their helicopters into the air and the pictures are impressive.
Join me for the latest at a quarter to seven.
Carl
