Scientists working on cures for aggressive prostate cancer hail a new drug as the most significant advance in the field for 70 years.

Abiraterone could potentially treat up to 80 per cent of the 10,000 patients with the deadly form of the disease which is currently resistant to existing treatments.

The Institute of Cancer Research hopes to make the drug available in a simple pill form in two to three years.
