Ruth Rendell's Not in the Flesh and the crime of female genital mutilation

Updated on 28 July 2008

By Nina Teggarty

Novelist Ruth Rendell tells More4 News she does not think the government are doing enough to fight female genital mutilation.

Rendell releases a paperback this week called Not in the Flesh.

While the main plot is the usual murder mystery, the subplot is devoted to a story about FGM, a practice that is illegal in Britain.

FGM involves the girl having all, or most, of her genitals removed.

Nina Teggarty reports.
