Laming damns child services
Updated on 12 March 2009
A report into the England's child protection services says they are too bureaucratic and lack cross-government co-ordination.
Lord Laming's report has criticised social services bosses for being too bogged down with bureaucracy to focus on risks to vulnerable children.
The Laming review of England's child protection services, carried out in the wake of the Baby P case, says there's a lack of "joined-up government" over social care strategies and that senior staff are too distant from social workers on the ground.
Lord Laming's report comes six years after his initial inquiry, following the death of Victoria Climbie.
