Calls to screen embryos for defects

There are new calls to help parents with genetic defects screen embyos to avoid having disabled children.

A £4m unit that could prevent couples from passing on inherited diseases to their children is being opened in London today.

Doctors at Guy's and St Thomas' will be able to offer specialised treatment for families who carry inherited conditions such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia or Huntington's disease and are seeking to conceive through IVF.
