Brown's health screening plans
Updated on 07 January 2008
The prime minister reveals plans for screening to prevent heart and kidney disease.
Gordon Brown made the announcement in a speech marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the NHS.
In his first major speech on the health service since becoming prime minister, Mr Brown promised an NHS for all, but personal to everyone.
He said that patients would be able to see the doctor they want, at the time they want, at the hospital they want.
The tests will initially be available to the most vulnerable, but will be rolled out later.
