Inside the morning news meeting...

'Cool' vaccine

A new vaccine to help combat cervical cancer will be given the green light by regulators today.

"It is the first anti-cancer vaccine to be used in this country - so it's pretty cool, from a scientific point of view."

It's hoped the vaccine will save up to 700 lives a year.

We'll be looking at why the vaccine is banned in some parts of the United States, and what its implications are for long-term cancer screening.

Inside Pirbright tonight

We are inside the labs at the Institute for Animal Health at Pirbright, the complex blamed for the recent Foot and Mouth outbreak.

"They let us into the labs to film because they are trying to say that the actual outbreak was not the fault of the labs.

"Officially no-one has been blamed yet, because it seems to boil down to who was responsible for the drains - as that's where the leak originated."

War on Canada... and the rest

Margaret Hodge, a minister for culture, media and sport, has declared war on Canada - well, sort of.

Mrs Hodge says Canada is breaching World Trade Organisation rules by offering tax breaks for computer game developers to relocate there from the UK.

The computer games industry is worth £2bn to Britain at present, and government is keen to stop a brain drain.

Channel 4 has a new political drama about a British Muslim family where one brother decides to join MI5 and become a spy, while the sister becomes a suicide bomber.

It sounds a bit crass, but those in the meeting who have seen it say it's very good.

"You see the brother's arguments and you agree with him, but then you see the sister and you agree with her too.

"In the end you don't know who is right.

"It's not about religion though, it is political. It's about the impact of control orders, Home Office policy, etc..."

In the past programmes such as Spooks have shied away from using plots involving Muslim extremism.

The problem for us is whether having a discussion on this drama looks more like a plug for Channel 4 than good journalism.. We shall see.
