Birmingham is happiest city
Updated on 24 October 2008
Birmingham tops a league of cities studied for research into people's happiness while Brighton languishes in last place.
Sixteen cities across the UK were examined to see if there is a link between how happy their residents are and how many friends they have.
The study for the National Lottery produced the table below, which measures residents' happiness in terms of a percentage alongside their average number of friends.
The figures led to findings, which chart the link between happiness and the number of close friends people have.
Manchester came second in the study followed by Nottingham, Sheffield, Norwich and Leeds.
