Army 'loses battalion' to drugs

The defence secretary responds to research showing that 769 army personnel tested positive for drugs in 2006.

Defence Secretary Des Browne has insisted there will be no change in the army's "zero tolerance" approach after new research which showed the army has been losing the equivalent of a battalion every year to illegal drug use.

Mr Browne said drug use in the armed forces was far lower than wider society.
