Flanked by his media spokesman, Gerry McCann returned to Glenfield Hospital today.
His daughter's face stares out from the entrance of the hospital.
Almost six months since Madeleine McCann disappeared, despite the family's use of private detectives and of course, the Portuguese police inquiry, investigators apparently no closer to finding her. No nearer discovering what happened to the little girl.
Gerry and Kate McCann have run a high profile campaign. In the time Madeleine's father has been on unpaid leave, his face has become instantly recognisable.
He's no longer an anonymous cardiologist. His contact with patients will be phased in slowly.
Gerry McCann's boss, a friend and trustee of the Madeleine campaign fund, supported his colleague this morning.
Mr McCann, questioned on whether he really could concentrate with Madeleine still missing, said he was ready to return to work. .
Gerry and Kate McCann remain suspects in their daughter's disappearance, an accusation they firmly deny.
