Ryanair calls for Stansted review

By Emily Reuben

Updated on 08 December 2008

The airline operator voices concern over the airport's security after protestors caused major disruption.

Security at one of the country's busiest airports is being investigated after a group of environmental activists managed to break through the perimeter fence onto the runway.

Thousands of passengers were left stranded as dozens of flights were cancelled or delayed.

Fifty seven protestors were arrested as the airport operators insisted they could not run Stansted as a "fortress".

But Ryanair has strongly criticised the way the incident was handled.
