Parents angry: youth quake deaths

By Sue Turton

Updated on 16 May 2008

In Sichuan thousands of angry parents want to know why the schools in which their children died bore the brunt of the earthquake tragedy.

Today, the Chinese government announced an official inquiry into school construction - vowing to punish anyone responsible for shoddy building work.

A handful of children have been rescued over the past 24 hours but for the vast majority of families, hope is rapidly fading.

The official death toll from the quake now stands at more than 22,000 but officials expect that to double.
