Online carbon calculator

Updated on 20 June 2007

By Krishnan Guru-Murthy

The Environment Minister David Miliband has launched the government's new online carbon calculator.

Individual carbon trading is key, and a new online carbon calculator is going to help us understand it.

Environment minister David Miliband's department's latest attempt to combat climate change is a simple online tool.

Families can enter information about how much energy they use at home, and even how much water they use to make a cup of tea to tot up their carbon output on the DirectGov website.

Critics say huge areas of carbon emissions are omitted, including the use of public transport, and that it tries to take responsibility for solving climate problems away from the Government.

Mr. Miliband launched the initiative at an internet cafe this morning
