'Moral obligation' to act on hunger

Gordon Brown calls an emergency summit on world food shortages, declaring that everyone has a "moral obligation" to act.

One hundred million people could face starvation because of soaring food prices across the world. Now Gordon Brown has backed calls for urgent action across the world.

The prime minister brought together aid agencies, scientists and food producers for an emergency summit in Downing Street, declaring everyone had a "moral obligation" to act.

And he hinted the government could rethink its support for biofuels, which many campaigners say could trigger even more shortages of food.
