Map: proposed pylons across the UK
Updated on 25 March 2009
View a map of the scenic areas campaigners believe could be blighted with more high-voltage pylons as the electricity transmission network is expanded to cope with new power supply.
Campaigners have accused the government of planning to erect hundreds of extra electricity pylons in areas of outstanding natural beauty.
They say the pylons will be used to deliver power generated from new renewable sources, as well as extra coal and nuclear power stations.
The Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) says that new power generation will mean a vast increase in the number of pylons criss-crossing the country, affecting rural areas like Snowdonia National Park, the Kent Downs and the Lincolnshire Wolds.
