Has the Hummer had its day?

As oil prices soar, the axe hovers over that symbol of 21st century excess, the Hummer.

As you reach ever deeper into your pocket to fill up on petrol or diesel, spare a thought for those even worse off than yourself: Hummer drivers.

Yes, the folk who shelled out on that gas-guzzling status symbol of the early 21st century are feeling the pain as the oil price rises.

So much so that General Motors is threatening to consign the Hummer to the breaker's yard of history
