The forest fires in Greece continue to rage despite desperate efforts and More4 News finds dozens have been arrested.

More than 60 people have been killed, but in some ways the more remarkable statistic is that over 80 people have been arrested and the Greek government has offered a reward of 1 million euros (£680,000) for information about other fire-setters.

Meanwhile, the opposition party in Greece has criticised the Government's handling of the crisis.

The Socialist PASOK party claimed accusations of arson are an excuse to cover for the government's response to the crisis. PASOK leader George Papandreou said: "The government has proven tragically incapable of dealing with fires.

"It could not save people's lives, property and homes. It is time for Greek people to choose a strong government that can guarantee security, confidence and hope."

The government is planning to hold an early parliamentary election on September 16.

An opinion poll said the ruling conservatives' lead over the socialists had slipped due, in part, to their handling of the crisis.

Greece has declared a nationwide state of emergency and appeals for help have brought planes and firefighters from abroad.

A team of Cypriot firefighters has made fire break corridors in mountains north of Ancient Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games in the western Peloponnese.

Fire chief Marcos Strangoulas said: "The fire has receded, there is no wind in the area and we have the water bombers overhead, but we have to be vigilant.

"I'm on a high mountain and there are oak trees all around. Let's hope they stay that way."
