Food prices top of G8 agenda as Brown urges UK consumers to waste less
Updated on 07 July 2008
Gordon Brown, en route to the G8 summit in Japan to discuss rising world food prices, urges families to avoid unnecessary waste.
A report by the cabinet office today says four million tonnes of food is binned every year, with the average British family wasting eight pounds a week on food that they throw away.
The prime minister has told consumers to think before they buy, to plan meals and to store food better.
