Driven to distraction by Brussels

The European Commission wants car adverts to detail how green their product is. But advertisers are up in arms.

Warning: this product could damage the environment, if not your wallet.

Green activists, car makers and advertisers have been meeting in Brussels to discuss whether all car adverts should be required to display information about carbon emissions and fuel consumption.

The advertisers are outraged, insisting it will damage a multi-million pound business.

It's all a far cry from the days when motors were all about glamour, speed and the freedom of the open road.
