China mourns earthquake dead

Updated on 19 May 2008

By Sue Turton

Flags fly at half mast as China begins three days of official mourning for those killed in the devastating Sichuan earthquake.

President Hu Jintao joined other political leaders to observe a three minute silence.

It's now thought more than 70,000 people are dead, missing or still buried under rubble.

Rescue efforts are still continuing, but the main challenge is providing food, shelter and medicines for millions of survivors.
