Do you choose home-grown food over imports? Spurred on by negative publicity about food miles, and backed by celebrity chefs, many people are consciously setting out to buy British.

Supermarkets are even offering special sections for local produce.

Nina Teggarty has spent the last week on a diet of UK food only, and she's been assessing the pros and cons - and the practicalities - of declaring your own individual import ban.

My week of eating British

I'm hardly what you'd call a foodie. Hosting a dinner party fills me with dread, I have one cookbook (from my Mum) and instead of shopping for dinner, often I'll just eat at the local pub.

So when I decided to do this challenge - namely, eat only British for and entire week- I wasn't prepared for what lay ahead.

Take a sandwich. Easy to find one that's British? Not so.
