Airport expansion set to take off

By Tom Clarke

Updated on 09 October 2008

The expansion will allow for another 10 million passengers on another 50,000 flights from one of Britain's biggest airports.

Airport operators BAA promised to minimise any impact on the local area, but critics said it made the government's climate change strategy '"a complete shambles".
