What's the matter with Britain's kids?

More4 News asks why it is that British children are so stubbornly impervious to the plans of politicians to educate them.
So education is Gordon Brown's passion but haven't we heard something like that before? His predecessor Tony Blair put it at the top of his agenda back in 1994.
But now, according to one study, British teenagers have fallen out of the top ten in international league tables for reading, maths and science.
It raises a troubling question - can the man in Whitehall - of whatever political hue - really affect what happens to the child in the nursery ?
