Late Sats results show one per cent rise in pupils reaching required standards

A small improvement by the children, but Sats marking by grown-ups is not up to scratch.
Test results for 11-year-olds published after a month-long delay show pupils have performed slightly better than last year. But nearly four in 10 are leaving primary school without the basics in the three Rs.
The results from English primaries have been overshadowed by delays in marking and are incomplete.
There have been renewed calls for the abolition of the tests.
