Internships to help jobless grads

Graduates struggling to find jobs in the grim economic climate may be offered government-backed internships to tide them over. Faisal Islam reports.
John Denham, the Skills Secretary, outlined the plan to help the 400,000 students graduating this year in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.
He revealed that the government has been in discussions with a host of major employers - including Barclays and Microsoft - about the internship scheme.
The plan is to offer three months paid work to the graduates - many of whom could find it difficult to get permanent jobs as the downturn continues - at some of Britain's top companies.
The government hopes that some placements will lead to jobs, and that at least the graduates will gain valuable experience. Channel 4 asks Minister for Higher Education David Lammy what he wants to see from the plans.
