Channel 4 News gained exclusive access to a pilot scheme helping sixth formers from London state schools enter top universities.

"It's not where you are from but what you aspire to become", that's Gordon Brown's vision for Britain.

But despite the billions poured into state education, the government is worried that too few children from low income families in England and Wales want to study at elite universities.

The Higher Education Access Programme for Schools, or HEAPS relies on graduate volunteers to give students the support they are not getting in school.

Samira Ahmed went to meet them this week, on a study course at Cambridge University.
