A-level results arrives amid row about how hard they really are
Updated on 14 August 2008
Universities struggle to find places for all who have achieved their target A-level results as a new row about the exams brews.
A-level results have set a new record, with more than 97 per cent of students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland achieving pass rates and higher numbers than ever before being awarded A grades.
Research just published by Durham University, collated over 20 years, suggests that standards required for an A grade today are the equivalent of those given only a C grade a few years ago.
