Previously unpublished figures released to More4 News show an almost a three-fold increase in reported domestic violence.

The numbers showed there were more than 650,000 reported incidents of domestic violence last year. And while the Home Office puts this down to increased reporting of attacks, the conviction rate remains extremely low.

So is this an explosion in drink-fuelled domestic violence, or a triumph for the government's drive to persuade women to report it?
