Death of Baby P: the fallout

By Emily Reuben

Updated on 01 December 2008

Officials at Haringey Council leave their posts after a damning report into the death of Baby P.

The council leader and a senior colleague have resigned. The head of children's services and six other members of staff have been suspended on full pay.

The Children's Secretary Ed Balls told the commons today the report was "damning and devastating".

There were "clear failings in procedure and management" and social workers did not talk directly to children at risk.

Balls said there would be another review into Baby P's death, who was on the child protection register, while Haringey would have new leadership installed.
