World wakes up to swine flu
Updated on 27 April 2009
Spain becomes the latest European country to confirm a case of swine flu as European health chiefs meet to discuss their response.
In Britain, senior government officials have been meeting in an emergency session in Whitehall this morning to discuss plans for a co-ordinated response to threats of a flu pandemic.
The meeting, under the government's Cobra system, follows the continued worldwide spread of the swine flu outbreak which began last week in Mexico.
A couple in Scotland are still awaiting the results of tests for the virus, although health officials say there is no particular cause for concern.
