South Korean police are investigating the leak of personal data for some 10 million people from an internet auction site.

The National Police Agency says most of the information from Internet Auction consisted of resident ID numbers and e-mail and mail addresses.

Internet Auction's largest shareholder is US auction giant eBay.

Police said they believe hackers took the information but have not yet found out who did it or why.

There have been no reports of the leak leading to any financial scams or other losses.
