Patient safety standards 'failing'
Updated on 03 July 2009
As many as one in 10 patients entering hospital in England and Wales suffer harm while they are there, while a handful of NHS trusts are offering "disastrously unsafe care".

These were among the disturbing conclusions of a report by MPs this morning, calling for more to be done to improve safety in the health service.
The health select committee said that waiting list targets and financial issues "too often" appeared to be more important than patient safety, contributing to a series of high profile cases in which patients were put at risk.
