The European Space Agency begins a new recruitment drive to search for its next generation of astronauts.

Wanted: people willing to travel to the International Space Station, the moon and beyond.

The European Space Agency has just begun a new recruitment drive to search for its next generation of astronauts.

More than 50,000 people from across Europe are expected to apply. You will need a science degree, a basic grasp of Russian, and will have to pass the medical.

But it costs around £1 million a year to keep a European astronaut ready to fly, and Britain has cut funding for manned space projects.

So could the money be better spent elsewhere?
