Help is at hand for every traveller who struggles to understand foreign restaurant menus - a new mobile phone has been developed that can do it for them.

Diners take a picture of the menu using the handset and after a few seconds it produces an English translation, New Scientist magazine reported.

The phone, which Nokia plans to launch next year, can translate 9,000 Chinese and 600 Japanese food-related words. Versions for other languages are planned.
