Mars lander lost in space

Nasa has lost touch with its Mars lander, the space craft which for a year has advanced human knowledge of Mars.

A final communication a week ago and the rest is silence.

The craft has now fallen victim to the bitter Martian winter, the same winter which could, in the future, make human colonisation so perilous.

Rags Martel reports.
