Ice free Arctic in ten years
Updated on 15 October 2009
During the summer most of the Arctic will be ice free in a climate change trend that could be impossible to reverse, British scientists warn.

Scientists at Cambridge University have been analysing new evidence gathered from the region by explorers and say the ice is melting at such a rate ships will soon be able to cross the Arctic circle.
Earlier this year Pen Hadow and his team trekked towards the North Pole to help scientists determine the depth of Arctic ocean ice.
They collected data from a 270 mile route across the northern part of the Beaufort sea.
The group battled extreme weather conditions during the 73 day expedition - with wind chill temperatures of -70 degrees.
