Hi-tech phone boxes launched

Updated on 20 June 2007

Source PA News

BT is set to launch 10 new hi-tech public payphones in west London to make them more profitable.

The newly designed kiosks - BT's first in 20 years - feature six scrolling adverts on the back, have no doors and plastic hoods to keep callers dry.

The boxes will cost about £2,000 each, and BT will earn money from the extra advertising revenue generated.
