A British Airways flight to India has made an emergency landing due to an electrical fault on a television screen in economy class.

The airline said the Boeing 777, which took off from Heathrow on Sunday morning with 222 passengers on board, was diverted to Berlin as a "precaution".

The BA143 Delhi flight returned to London and was due to take off again, BA said.

In a statement, BA said: "The BA143 Heathrow to Delhi flight diverted to Berlin ... as a precaution after an electrical fault with the Inflight Entertainment System in one of the seatback television screens in economy class.

"The aircraft, a Boeing 777 with 222 passengers, landed safely at Berlin's Schoenefeld International Airport, where it was checked over by engineers.

"The cabin crew are trained to deal with this kind of incident onboard.

"We apologise for any inconvenience to our passengers but the safety of our passengers, crew and aircraft is paramount and will never be compromised."
