Climate change: UK must 'adapt to the inevitable'
Updated on 13 February 2009
A new report says the government should not just be trying to prevent the effects of climate change, but should focus on adapting to its inevitable impact.
A new report by the Mechanical Institute of Engineers suggests that in the future the UK will suffer from increased flooding, volatile storms, droughts and heat waves.
The report urges the government to take preparatory measures including building power plants at flood proof locations, planning for rising sea levels and knocking down sections of inner cities to create ventilation areas to cope with the extreme heat.
