Child with swine flu dies
Updated on 29 June 2009
A nine-year-old girl in Birmingham has died after contracting swine flu - the third swine flu-related fatality in the UK.
Birmingham Children's Hospice said it was not clear whether swine flu had contributed to the death of the child, who had other underlying heath problems.
The first two fatal cases of the illness were in Scotland and both had other health problems before they contracted H1N1, otherwise known as swine flu.
The Department of Health has announced a jump in the number of patients in England confirmed with swine flu - up 1,604 since Friday, taking the UK total so far to 5,937.
