Zimbabweans vote in 'sham' election

By Channel 4 News

Updated on 27 June 2008

Polls open in election denounced around the world as a fraud and a sham.

The vote in the run-off for last March's disputed presidential election will go ahead despite the withdrawal of President Robert Mugabe's only rival, opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

The Movement for Democratic Change leader has advised his supporters to vote for Mr Mugabe rather than risk further violence at the hands of the president's Zanu-PF supporters.
