Papers which seem to be Zimbabwe government minutes of talks with South Africa, show a close link between the nations' ruling parties.

There has been a tough line from South Africa's ruling ANC.

They called the situation in Zimbabwe "dire", with "negative consequences" for the whole region, comments seen as a strong criticism of South African president Thabo Mbeki's upbeat assessment.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's opposition MDC called a general strike today, demanding the full release of election results.

But those who still have a job seemed to ignore the call, fearing a military crackdown by the Mugabe regime.
