Will Tsvangirai take over?

By Sally Gould

Updated on 02 April 2008

Four days after elections in Zimbabwe pressure mounts on Robert Mugabe to admit defeat.

The opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai said that the MDC was on the verge of taking power, and is believed to have held talks with senior military officials to ensure they support the outcome.

Meanwhile fears that a presidential runoff could result in three weeks of potential violence are growing.

The latest parliamentary election results show that out of 210 constituencies, ruling Zanu-PF has 93 and opposition MDC has 91, with the breakaway MDC faction taking five.
