He's raising record funds, and the backing of Colin Powell has put him even further ahead in the polls.

Tonight the Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is campaigning in Florida, one of the key swing states he hopes will take him all the way to the White House.

At the moment Obama leads his rival John McCain in every state won by the Democrats in 2004, as well as several held by President Bush.

But Senator McCain insists he's still confident: things, he said last night, "are heading our way".
