The armistice day ceremony at London's Cenotaph marks the end of the first world war.

Three of the four surviving veterans of world war one, Henry Allingham, Harry Patch and Bill Stone led the country in observing a two minute silence.

In France, the Prince of Wales joined the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, laying wreaths at the first world war battlefield site near Verdun.
