Was Karzai's election democratic?

Hamid Karzai is declared Afghan president for a second term, against a backdrop of sacrifice in the name of democracy. From Kabul, Nick Paton Walsh reports.
But Karzai was the only candidate left in the race.
The country's election commission cancelled Saturday's run-off election after Karzai's sole challenger, Dr Abdullah Abdullah, pulled out yesterday, saying the run-off would neither be free, nor fair.
Gordon Brown and other western leaders have congratulated President Karzai but warned that there is now an urgent need to tackle corruption.
Jon Snow was joined by Nick Horne who served as political affairs officer for the UN mission in Afghanistan until Saturday, when he resigned in protest over the mission's failure to tackle political corruption.
