US police probe plot to kill Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama

Updated on 26 August 2008

By Sue Turton

US police are investigating whether a man arrested with a rifle, a walky-talky and drugs was part of a plot to murder Barack Obama.

He was one of three men arrested in Denver on drugs and weapons offences. It is reported that he made comments to police that alerted them to a potential threat.

On the convention floor, Barack Obama's wife Michelle told the crowd she loved her husband and thought he would be an extraordinary president.
