The UN secretary General Ban Ki Moon calls for the air and ground assault in Gaza to stop, accusing Israel of using "unnecessary force".

The Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has suspended peace negotiations with Israel after an offensive into Gaza, which has left more than a hundred Palestinians dead.

Israel insisted it was acting in self defence to stop constant rocket attacks across its border by militant fighters.

Today five Palestinians, including a child, were killed in the latest fighting, while a teenager was shot dead during anti Israeli protests in the West Bank town of Hebron.

Four people were hurt when nine rockets slammed into southern Israel.
