UK protests call for peace in Gaza
Updated on 10 January 2009
More than 10,000 people gathered today in London to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Julian Rush reports.
The protest march, from Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park to the Israeli embassy in Kensington, began peacefully.
However later in the day there were some confrontations between demonstrators and police, and the window of a nearby Starbucks was smashed.
The march has been organised by groups including the Stop the War Coalition and the British Muslim Initiative. Other protests took place around the UK.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews have organised a peace rally to take place in London on Sunday.
